Class projects:

  • Research and present on an authentic Hispanic tradition or holiday (day of the dead, muertos, cinco de mayo, quinceañera, Christmas, 3 kings day, etc.)
  • In a group, write and present an original skit in Spanish based on one of the following situations:
    • Welcoming a new student to school
    • Purchasing clothing in a clothing store
    • Restaurant
    • Something funny that happens to a family at home
    • TV news program, including weather and "school news"
    • Biographical sketch of an "invented" family event (wedding, funeral, party, etc.)

Gramatical concepts:

  1. Pluralization of nouns
  2. Correct use of adjectives (including gender / number concordance)
  3. Use of possessive pronouns
  4. Proper conjugation of regular verbs in the present tense
  5. Familiarity and use of the following irregular verbs in the present tense: hay, ser, tener, gustar, hace (with weather expressions), power verb construction
  6. Proper sentence formation including sentences, negation, basic questions
