Spanish
2 disclosure and classroom policies Introduction: 9th grade Spanish continues in a logical sequence from work completed in the 7th and 8th grades. The purpose of this year's course is to help students gain additional tools in vocabulary, grammar and culture in order to facilitate greater communication in the areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing on a variety of topics in different times and contexts. Required Materials: Please bring your computer or a suitable writing system with you daily. We are using a new textbook this year, Descubre 2 (Vista Higher Learning). Unless needed at home, students should leave the textbook in the classroom. Most of the textbook (including homework assignments) is available online at http://descubre2.vhlcentral.com.
I believe that everyone can succeed in learning Spanish if they wish to do so. My grading system is designed to reward effort in learning the language. Learning a second language
can be difficult, yet it should also be one of the most exciting and
useful skills ever acquired, without fear of failure. Please click here for specific grading terms. It is expected that students will spend at least 20-30 minutes nightly reviewing, practicing and improving their ability to speak and use
Spanish in their daily lives.
Although I do not allow extra credit, bonus points may be completed to
make up for late or missing assignments as well as low quiz scores. Bonus points must be turned in by the day of the unit test to count.
Class help: I am available every day during tutorial to help students that need assistance. Please feel free to e-mail me with any
questions at rtate@tjeffschool.org or browse my website (http://www.tatespanish.com/tj)
All students are expected to treat themselves and others
with respect, refrain from interfering with others' learning, be honest in
the classroom and arrive on time and prepared.
Those able and willing to comply with these requests will be allowed
to participate with the class in all activities throughout the year. I adhere to all school-wide regulations
including behavior, discipline and attendance policies. Specific expectations are posted in class
and on the Internet (click here for classroom rules).
It is truly a thrill for me to teach at Thomas Jefferson. We had a fantastic year in 2007 in 9th grade. I expect this to be even better! |
